Diagnosis and repair of peritoneopericardial diaphragmatic hernia (PPDH) in a Doberman dog: A first report from India

Peritoneopericardial diaphragmatic hernia is one of the unusual developmental anomalies diaphragm in dogs and cats, which are presented without any specific signs. Presented dog was examined clinically, physically later subjected for chest radiograph echocardiography confirmation. Surgical repair carried out through a midline celiotomy closed by opposing margins two layer using simple continuous pattern with polydioxanone suture material. Affected showing normal temperature, elevated pulse heart rate. Muffled sounds barborygmi were detected on auscultation chest. X-ray left lateral exposure revealed loss continuity along gas filled radiolucent intestines within pericardium adjacent soft tissue structures thorax. Presence anechoeic area hyperechoeic crystals pericardial space, diastolic collapse right atrium ventricle echocardiographic features. Ultrasound guided thoracocentesis sample alkaline pH (8.5).
